Five
more days until I embark on my yearly sugar (and alcohol) detox. I’ve had much interest from friends and clients over the years to partake with me and thus I’ve committed to publishing some words and hopefully garnering support all around. As most of us already know, it is super easy to commit to something but also super easy to not follow through.
Because I am a practiced dietitian and health coach, I know that I will follow through (as I have proven to myself in many years past that I am capable) but I am the first to admit: It’s hard. Really hard. The concept is simple. Don’t eat added sugars (or drink alcohol for me) for 1 month. I clearly know how good I will feel after it’s through — but what I hope to instill in anyone choosing to partake with me — it does NOT have to be all or nothing.
Perhaps you choose to embark on this with all intentions of 100% commitment, and I think you should, but what may be important to think of for the next 5 days is what you really want out of it. Perhaps someone out there just wants to give up soda. Another may just want to give up that god-awful-for-you Frap/Latte/Fake Happiness habit that has consumed more of her paycheck each day than she ever thought, or perhaps someone else has just taken to eating too many chocolates after dinner. Whatever your reason for choosing to try to reduce your sugar intake please be easy on yourself. You may choose to go all or nothing with me (but remember my profession) or you may choose to pick one thing to reduce. But, whatever it is you can become more experienced as you go along and thus if you don’t 100% quit like me…that’s OK. You may just need to work up to that.
All that said, I will be posting each day up to Jan. 1 and then each day after that for 31 days. You may choose to follow me (sign up to receive emails) or you may choose to just check in. I will try to engage your intellect by revealing the who, what, when, where and why it’s important to start to reduce your sugar intake (don’t need to tell anyone why to reduce alcohol).
Stay tuned. For tonight…I encourage you to really think about what your sugar issue is. Do you want to tackle it all or do you want to tackle just one (or two) problem areas. There is no right or wrong way. Just taking a step in the right direction.
